Damai Chakitiam - Lido

We remembered Chakitiam’s pork pau and char siu pau from its earlier Damai days. By the time of this visit, the business had already moved to Lido. We had continued buying from it after the move, so this was a return to a familiar snack rather than a first discovery.

The taste still had much of what we remembered. There was a nostalgic comfort in eating pork and char siu pau from a business we had known since its Damai days, now at its Lido operation.

The filling did look a little less generous than we remembered or expected during this visit. That was our visual impression, not a measured comparison. The familiar flavour remained broadly consistent, so the smaller-looking filling did not mean the pau had simply become worse.

At the time, pork pau and char siu pau were RM2.50 each, while tausa pau was listed at RM2.00. We considered those prices inexpensive compared with many newer kopitiam pau prices. These are historical prices from the visit, not current quotations. Our tasting comments here concern the pork and char siu pau; the tausa pau was also listed in our notes.

For us, the attraction was still that familiar old-school taste. The filling deserved an honest mention, alongside the nostalgia and the value we felt during that Lido visit.
