SNS - The Stop n Shop X Orang Utan Chicken Rice - Kobusak

We went to SNS / Stop n Shop at Kobusak after seeing plenty of recent recommendations. That had pushed our expectations fairly high before we sat down. The restaurant was packed, and we waited around 20 to 25 minutes for our food.

The owner told us that about five staff members were on leave. We could see him cooking, handling the cashier and managing much of the workload himself. It was hard not to respect the effort involved in keeping service moving under those conditions.

The chicken arrived with a generous amount of fried garlic. Its aroma was very appetising, and that first impression was promising. The texture of the chicken, however, was somewhat tough. It did not have the smooth, tender bite we had hoped for.

We wondered whether the staffing shortage might have affected kitchen consistency that day. That was our speculation, not an established explanation for the chicken, and certainly not a reason to dismiss every criticism. What we can say directly is that the chicken on our plate was firmer than we wanted.

The rice was a stronger part of the meal. Its ginger aroma came through clearly, and we enjoyed it. If you like ginger-heavy chicken rice, that was the element we found most appealing. The vegetable soup was fairly ordinary and did not leave much of an impression.

Overall, this was a mixed visit. Some of the disappointment may have come from expectations built up by the hype, but the texture issue was still real for us. We left respecting the owner’s work and remained interested in returning for curry chicken or other signatures. Those dishes were not part of this meal, so they are not being reviewed here.
