Aishah Kitchen

Personally visited by Sabah Discovery

The Pho was what we would send someone to Aishah Kitchen for, with fresh Vietnamese rolls alongside it. Friendly, attentive service and a preview of a pressed chicken cold cut made our visit especially memorable.

Our visit to Aishah Kitchen in Lintas Jaya was a good reminder to try the Pho rather than automatically ordering mihun. The rice noodles looked a little like familiar kway teow, but we liked their springy, slippery texture. The broth tasted sweet and savoury, with a clean, light character that did not feel bland. Fresh herbs brought the Vietnamese flavours together for us.

The Popiah, or Vietnamese rolls, were another order we enjoyed. The translucent wrappers held a generous, fresh filling, with enough crunch and different textures to make them a good side dish or start to the meal. Pho was our main recommendation, but we would happily add the rolls alongside it.

The most unusual part of the visit was something that had not officially joined the menu. The owner invited us to try a hand-pressed chicken cold cut made with minced chicken, wood ear mushroom, mushroom, black pepper and garlic. It had a firm, springy bite. We dipped a slice into the special pepper salt with calamansi juice and chilli, then ate it with cucumber. That combination of saltiness, savouriness, acidity and heat was the point of the dish. This was a preview offered during our visit, rather than a promise that it is available to order today.

The space was clean, Vietnamese songs were playing, and both the owner and staff were friendly and attentive. We spent about RM25 per person at the time. For the portions and experience we had, that felt fairly priced. It is a historical spending figure, rather than a current budget guide.

What we would tell a friend after that meal is straightforward: start with the Pho, and add the Vietnamese rolls.

Sabah Discovery’s Take

Worth trying for

Vietnamese Pho

The springy Pho noodles and fresh, clean-tasting broth were our main recommendation. Add the Vietnamese rolls as a side; the pressed chicken cold cut was a memorable preview, but its current availability is unconfirmed.

Pho
