Sabah Discovery Review
Tun Fuad Stephens Botanical Garden - Bukit Padang
Personally visited by Sabah Discovery
Visited in 2026
Returning to Taman Botani, we found a cleaner, more open and more comfortable park. The choice of walking routes and refurbished bridge made a positive difference, though the larger parking area still became crowded at peak times.
We returned to Tun Fuad Stephens Botanical Garden at Bukit Padang after it had been reopened for some time following improvements. The changes felt noticeably positive. The park looked cleaner, more open and refreshed, making it a more comfortable place to spend time outdoors.
Having more walking routes made a real difference to the experience. We could follow the usual larger loop or take a smaller route beside the lake. The views changed with the route, which made us feel that repeat visits would be less monotonous.
We particularly liked the lakeside walk. The refurbished bridge felt more stable and comfortable underfoot than before. Along with the cleaner surroundings, that helped the park feel more inviting for a walk, a jog or a quiet pause by the water.
The LED lighting was another improvement we noticed. Evening visibility felt better to us, and we felt more at ease walking there. That is our personal impression of the lighting during this visit, rather than a guarantee of safety.
Basic fitness stations provided options for light exercise. The larger parking area was useful too, although it still became crowded during peak periods. Extra space had not removed that practical limitation.
The hill and hiking side was accessible at the time of our visit. Some route adjustments or works remained, with signs advising visitors to be careful. Those observations belong to that visit; anyone returning should follow the current signs and use the routes open on the day.
Overall, we felt the improvements had made a meaningful difference for walking, jogging, light exercise, casual photography and simply relaxing. Cleaner surroundings and varied routes were the strongest reasons we would come back.
